This post will support the development of community engagement with our composting project, and with promoting composting to people living in social housing in Lambeth.
It would be an excellent post for someone who wants to support the development of climate friendly practices in cities.
Aims of the composting project
In the next year we want to expand community composting of food in Lambeth’s housing estates with the aim that more people are able to reduce food waste and increase the amount of compost produced in the borough. The project:
- Provides members with the information, capacity building and resources they need to sustain community composting.
- Develops a model for community composting on urban housing estates
- Supports the development of composting sites across Lambeth’s housing estates by May 2024
In particular in 2023-24 we aim to build engagement with composting on housing estates in the Borough of Lambeth. A key aim is to ensure that Lambeth’s diverse communities are better reflected and empowered throughout the organisation.
Job Description
- Promote project and activities through social media and IEL website
- Engaging with residents to build interest in program through door knocking
- Support with events
- Write up project stories and successes
Essential attributes for the role
- Experienced in the development and delivery of marketing strategies that successfully engage diverse group of community members
- Experience in working with a diverse range of people
- Good organisational skills
- Good time management
- Good written communication and social media skills
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends (with enough notice)
Desirable attributes
- Cycling / driving
- Knowledge of using Canva or other digital skills
- Interest in learning nonviolent communication
- Gardening and/or composting knowledge and interest
Support and training
* Support and training from IEL composting team
* Hot desking at International House with internet access.
* Visit to Brighton and Hove composting project
* A range of training including conflict management and community organiser
training
