This would be an excellent post for someone who wants to learn more about food growing and to help build community.

About this opportunity

In the next year we want to expand food growing in the borough with the aim that more people are able to grow more food, particularly on the borough’s housing estates.

Duration: 10 months (subject to three month probationary period and with the possibility to extend, depending on funding), 7 hours a week
Rate: £10.85 an hour x 7 hours a week
Start date: January 2022
Hours: Flexible
Location: At home and/or at a hotdesk at International House; out and about meeting our members and other organisations.
Reports to: IEL coordinator


You will support IEL coordinator with the following projects

  • Assist in managing a small grants programme, administering funds of up to £200 for seeds, compost and tools to 20 new food growing projects on estates (£4000)
  • Build relationships with new and existing members through outreach (e.g. visits to their gardens, talking through their issues)
  • Gather information for the ebulletin and social media
  • Help write the ebulletin 
  • Help organise the annual IEL seed swap 
  • Help organise the annual Blooming Lambeth Awards 
  • Support the Coordinator in day to day running of IEL.

  • Strong communication skills – able to engage with a variety of stakeholders 
  • Experience of collaborative working 
  • Engaged in the local community and familiar with the Borough of Lambeth
  • IT competency, including online content management platforms

Support for the role

  • You will be supported, trained and managed by the IEL coordinator
  • You will have supervision from an IEL director once a month.
  • Hot desking at International House with internet access.
