We had a very informative and enjoyable workshop with Adi from Urban Mushrooms at Bernie Spain Gardens this week.
Adi gave a short presentation about the fasinating world of fungi and introduced us to the processes involved in mushroom cultivation. We then took our learning outside and creating a wine cap bed in the community growing area in Bernie Spain Gardens. The workshop brought together volunteers from Coin Street’s Gentle Gardening group with other community gardeners from the local area, with the aim of equipping people with the skills to set up their own mushroom growing areas. Thanks to Landor Road Community Plot, St John’s Waterloo and Carey Gardens Estate for taking part.
If successful, the wine cap bed should start producing mushrooms this autumn. The Gentle Gardeners will be keeping it well-watered in the meantime.
