We are aiming to develop our outside space so that the children can grow fruit and vegetables.
We have several aims in relation to our school garden/growing areas:
- Enable the children in the school to have a chance to understand the growing process of plants, fruit, vegetables, etc. Obviously, this fits in very well with science objectives, but also gives the children an understanding of where their food comes from.
- Provide each class with a small growing bed for which they will have responsibility. TheĀ children will have to learn to work together, communicate and research how to look after their seeds/plants/vegetables The children will then be able to sample any produce they grow.
- We are also lucky enough to have secured some funding for a Gardening Therapy project. We currently have a gardener coming in one afternoon each week enabling small groups of children to improve their wellbeing through outdoor projects.
