The aims of the Open Orchard Project are:
– To plant and maintain fruit trees and other in publicly accessible places for the benefit of local people, visitors and wildlife.
– To encourage community involvement in the planting and maintenance of fruit trees and other
– To grow and conserve a mix of local varieties of fruit that can include apples, plums, pears, cherries
and nuts
– To optimise the potential for wildlife, increasing biodiversity and air quality, mitigating the urban heat island impact, increasing resilience, improving mental and physical health and general wellbeing, as well as providing economic benefit
– To manage the trees as organically as practical, excluding the use of herbicides and insecticides
-To offer a host of activities from practical management and education to celebration and appreciating the harvest and the benefits of trees
