A team of volunteers including landscape architects, builders and members of the local community – led by ‘We Are Waterloo BID’ – stripped out Granby Place, previously a public toilet and a place known for drug use, and created a welcoming peaceful environment in the middle of Waterloo’s hustle and bustle.
After a community gardening day we launched the new space on 11th May full of beautiful plants and trees, refurbished traditional “tappy” market stalls and benches that were repainted by local residents and market traders.
Many visitors and residents now enjoy Granby Place, located off Lower Marsh, as a place to eat lunch, or read away from the office or the busy environment of Lower Marsh Market. In the summer Granby Place works hard as an event space with a mindfulness theme with events including drawing workshops, outdoor meditation and yoga.
