Bat Walk on St Martin’s Estate

On Tuesday September 24th, we met at the wonderful Challice Way community garden on St Martin’s Estate for a bat walk. Contrary to popular belief bats prefer to come out and hunt around dusk, so just after sunset is the best time to try to spot them. Armed with bat detectors, which convert the calls of bats into audible sound, we made our way from St Martin’s estate to Palace Road Nature Garden.

Although it was a balmy night, we didn’t hear or see any bats, but we did get to explore the Nature Garden after hours. Many thanks to Lambeth’s resident biodiversity expert and ‘bat man’ Iain Boulton for leading this fun, and informative walk! Iain will be leading more walks next year, once Lambeth’s bats have come out of hibernation.

The walk was part of IEL’s ongoing Estates Biodiversity project. Find out more here: https://www.incredibleediblelambeth.org/biodiversity/
