I am proposing that IEL support and sign the Jack Monroe petition as it’s utterly brilliant. Investigate hunger and foodbank use in the UK NOW.
It’s about us all as individuals within our societies systems and it’s not a good reflection of our society. For me the words which resonate are ” I was referred to my local foodbank for help by a Sure Start children’s centre, after staff noticed that my son and I always had seconds and thirds of the free lunch they provided.”
Those words describe a system which is not right. On one hand the organisations are there to promote wellbeing and mitigate the effects of poverty including issues around food and it shows that somebody cared and intervened. However we all know food banks are not the solution. IEL recognise this, we are showing our support. We hope you do too.
Please sign it and share to your family friends and networks. Best wishes Ann
We are delighted to be contributing to the solution. It’s the first Sustainable Food Trust conference with an amazing line up of food thinkers. Shall report back more and to how it shapes our thinking for us at a local level.
It’s good to reflect on the year. We’ve laid down some strong roots, now it’s time to blossom. Special thanks to all the committee elected last year Amy, Ann, Dom, Elaine, Fiona, Helen, Iben, Jamey, Mak, Marj, Nicola, Pamela and Therese. Enjoy this year’s annual reportIEL Annual report 2013
We are delighted to have 7 newly appointed board members as we shall be developing into a Community Interest Company. 2013 board are Therese Stowell, Tina Jennings, Sue Sheehan, Tori Sherwin, Mak Gilchrist, Marjorie Landels and Ann Bodkin.
We would like to invite you to the third Incredible Edible Lambeth Feast and AGM on Saturday 19th October at the Garden Museum, from 6-10pm. We hope you can make it. Bring a sumptuous dish of food and your local food story to share.
We are delighted Jay Rayner, writer, food critic and Lambeth resident will be joining us to share his food stories with his ‘Greedy Man’ show. Come ready for dialogue and if you can get a copy out of the library of his book Greedy Man in a Hungry World do have a quick read.
As we’ve been developing the organisation this year with the great support from Food Matters you’ll also see two forms. One for nomination to the Board of Directors one to the Steering Group. This came about through our governance workshop, where there was a clear message that folk wanted to be actively involved on more of the projects/functional side of things rather than the administration of the organisation. This structure was agreed to be the way forward for this moment in time and we would encourage you to consider becoming a Director of the Incredible Edible Lambeth (5 to 7 positions) or a member of the Steering Group (20 positions). As a democratic organisation elections are important for ensuring that there is as wide a variety of people as possible on the Board and that it represents all community members in Lambeth. Please see attached for more information on how to become a Director or a member of the Steering Group and what it entails.
We’re in a good position and it feels very positive to be not only a key organisation in the newly formed Lambeth Food Partnership, but also to be hearing soon about the new Edible Lambeth role. If you have not done it already we would love it if you would consider joining as a member. It is free to anyone living or working in Lambeth, and easy to join. Just go to www.incredibleediblelambeth.org/joinus/ or fill in the joining postcard at the AGM.
We hope to see you on the 19th to feed our Lambeth food culture through food and dialogue, so that you can vote for members of the Board, and steering group. We have also attached the agenda and papers relevant to the meeting.
Please RSVP to email@example.com ASAP so we know how many will be attending.
