Brixton Underground Station

London Underground promotes Stations in Bloom each year and gives a small budget to any stations wishing to take part. Stations in Bloom is totally voluntary, and is completed in your own time. This years theme was ‘2018, The Year of Engineering’ which is organised by the UK Government with various events across the UK designed to encourage children and young people into Engineering. My indoor garden is designed to capture the interest of commuters and children with the emphasis on the Engineering of time and its importance on the railway. Of course in an Underground Station environment gardening is going to be quite a challenge!!!! I’ve researched plants and mosses that are tolerant to dusty and dry conditions that will also grow under fluorescent light, will improve the air quality and improve the ambiance of this local Lambeth transport hub. Through the use of various timepieces and cogs I have sort to make a garden something that’s something unusual. Something that will make people stop and look rather than dash through the station on their daily commute, and I hope something that will brighten up the daily commute for London Underground customers and the staff that I work with. I hope you like my efforts.
